Tea Length Dress
I made this silk georgette overlapping abstract dot dress for a destination wedding in Barbados. Alissa, the bride, was my sewing student from age 14, and then became my employee, mentee, friend, and a world class fashionista. (Sewing friends are just the best!!!) For this special event, I was after a 1940s old Hollywood look that made a glamorous statement without competing with the beautiful bride. The skirt is lined with a neutral-colored silk charmeuse while the bodice and straps are underlined with silk charmuese and interfaced with the Angel Face that AAF carries in white or black. The narrow hem was done on an Elna serger using Sulky. The belt, skirt, and lining hems were all done with a bit of a lettuce edge. Many patterns were used to achieve the final effect.
